THE STAK STORY
Thompson Park - Gaffney, SC (March 2023)
Pickleball and small towns...
Even though pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the United States there are so many people who know nothing about it, or if they do they don’t have a court to go out and play. This is one of the reasons I started StaK. All profits from StaK sales will be given to small towns to help them resurface old tennis courts into new pickleball courts. More courts mean more people can play.
The first city to receive money will be Gaffney, SC, my hometown. Thompson Park in Gaffney has two tennis courts. The city went ahead and painted lines on one of the courts and bought portable nets. Still, the surface is so worn down and beat up that it will be hard to play. Once they are resurfaced the city will have two brand new courts. It's in the heart of the city. With bright new paint it will be an attention grabber. Out come the people to play!
Another reason for me getting Stak off the ground is the ability to have everything custom made. What this means is I get to pick out the fabric, I get to choose the colors, and I get to design the pattern for all garments. I happen to like cotton and you will find a high percentage of cotton in many of these garments.
An example of a custom garment is the Stak Pom Hoodie you see online. It is a heather oatmeal color, fleece fabric that is short and wide with slits on each side of the waist. I couldn’t find this particular fit/ style so I talked to my friend, Connie, at Classic Tees in San Gabriel, CA. Classic Tees makes custom garments for clients throughout the country. I love working with them! They are kind, fair, and innovative. On the home page look under, “ Learn more about our custom manufacturer" to see video from their factory.
There's joy for me in doing things I like. Such as creating a logo, picking out fabrics, designing garments, choosing decorating options such as screen printing, soft flock or embroidery, then seeing it all come together as a company. Stak is fun for me, and, it will help more people play pickleball. Good for all.
